Single origin from Jaffna

Moringa Powder from Sri Lanka - single origin from Jaffna.

Moringa leaf powder is only as good as its drying. The leaf of Moringa oleifera - called Murunga in Sri Lanka, the miracle tree elsewhere - loses its colour and aroma when exposed to heat. Ours is dried gently below 40 °C and therefore stays vibrant green. It grows on the moringa-only fields of our smallholder families in Jaffna, in the north of Sri Lanka - single origin and EU organic certified under DE-ÖKO-005.

Origin

Harvested by the women of our partner families.

In Jaffna, the northernmost district of Sri Lanka, the moringa tree grows on our partner families' own, pure fields. The leaves are picked by hand at optimum ripeness - traditionally by the women of the family - and carefully washed. No mixing with produce of other origin, no middlemen.

How to use

Green in your smoothie, in water, in dough.

Moringa can be used cold or warm: 1 tsp in a green smoothie with banana and apple, ½ tsp in lukewarm water with lemon and honey, 1-2 tsp stirred into sauces or soups after cooking, or 1 tbsp in the dough for green pancakes and energy balls. Tip: moringa tastes mild but colours a strong green - so use it sparingly.

Everything starts in the field. Our smallholder families in Jaffna, the central region and the classic Ceylon growing areas harvest their spices by hand - exactly when the aroma is at its most concentrated. We are on site regularly, know the hands behind every harvest and pay fair prices directly to the families through local partner cooperatives.

Directly after the harvest, the spices are gently dried and taken to our FSSC 22000-certified packing partner facility. There they are cleaned, ground and filled into finished packaging - all still in Sri Lanka. We import only sealed finished products to Darmstadt. Here we store, pick and ship to you the same day.
