Grown, processed and packed - in Sri Lanka

Original from
Sri Lanka. With care.

Our spices are grown, processed and packed ready for shipping in Sri Lanka - at an FSSC 22000-certified packing partner facility. We import only sealed finished products to Darmstadt and ship them to you from there. This page shows what that means in practice - where we are already EU organic certified and what we are still working on.

To the overview

On this page we want to show you honestly how we work - and where we are not yet where we want to be. Our spices are grown, harvested, dried, ground and packed into the finished bag in Sri Lanka - all at an FSSC 22000-certified packing partner facility. Only then are the sealed finished products imported to Darmstadt.

For you this means: processing and packaging take place under documented hygiene and safety standards directly in the country of origin - not at goods receipt in Europe. In Germany only one thing happens: we store the goods and send them to you. On organic certification we are in the middle of the transition - some spices are already EU organic certified (DE-ÖKO-005), for others the process is under way.

Which products are already EU organic?

One origin, no middlemen

Direct from Sri Lanka.

Our founder JR-Janathan Rajakumar was born in Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka and grew up in Darmstadt. He speaks German and Tamil and is at home in both cultures - Sri Lankan and German. He grew up with the Sri Lankan cooking of his mother and grandmother; he knows Sri Lanka from his own life, not just from visits. Today he knows the partner families and the packing partner facility personally - and knows when harvesting, drying and grinding happen and when the container leaves for Hamburg.

For you this means: no anonymous wholesale, no blending with goods from other countries, no unknown middlemen between field and bag. Every spice you buy from us comes from Sri Lanka - with a batch number on the bag.

Processing in the country of origin

What happens in Sri Lanka before the container leaves for Hamburg.

Unlike many importers, we do not grind and pack in Germany. All of that happens in Sri Lanka. We have known the partner families who grow and harvest our spices personally for years. Before a bag leaves the port of Colombo, it is already ground, filled, labelled and sealed - ready for export.

What is the same for every batch: processing under documented hygiene and safety standards at the FSSC 22000-certified packing partner facility, single-variety filling without blending with other origins, and a batch number on every bag. That keeps every delivery clearly traceable from the start.

Five steps from the field to you

How the supply chain works.

Every bag passes through five clearly defined stations - from our partner families' fields in Sri Lanka to your doorstep in Germany.

Cultivation in Sri Lanka.

Grown by our smallholder families in Jaffna, the central region and the classic Ceylon growing areas. For the organic line: EU organic certified cultivation without synthetic pesticides.

Harvest and drying.

Hand picking and single-variety drying directly after the harvest. First visual inspection on site at the partner families.

Processing and packing.

Cleaning, grinding and single-variety filling - all on site in Sri Lanka. Then labelled and sealed ready for shipping.

Import to Hamburg.

Fully packed bags are shipped by container from Colombo to Hamburg and cleared through customs there.

Shipping from Darmstadt.

Storage and shipping to end customers within Germany. Shipped within 24 hrs of order receipt on business days.

We process where the plant grows. That is not cheaper - but it is more honest. Whoever grinds, checks and packs in Sri Lanka ends up with exactly what is meant to be in the bag.
