Description

Organic Moringa Powder from Sri Lanka - bright green moringa leaf powder from the Moringa oleifera tree, EU organic certified under DE-ÖKO-005. Our smallholder partner families from Jaffna in the north of Sri Lanka cultivate the moringa tree (also called the «miracle tree» or «Murunga») on certified organic fields in the traditional way on pure moringa fields. Gentle drying preserves the colour and aroma of the leaves - that is what sets us apart from industrially heat-dried moringa powder.

Flavour profile & taste

Mild and earthy, slightly grassy with a nutty finish and a pleasant sharpness. Organic moringa powder has an unobtrusive, harmonious taste that blends into smoothies, juices or warm dishes without dominating. The intense green colour and the typical plant scent are indicators of a clean, gentle drying process - industrially processed moringa often loses colour and taste.

Origin

Our organic moringa comes from Jaffna, the northernmost district of Sri Lanka. Here, Moringa oleifera grows on the EU-organic-certified fields of our partner families - using traditional cultivation methods, without synthetic pesticides, in their own, pure moringa fields. The leaves are harvested by hand at optimum ripeness (typically by the women of the partner family), carefully washed, gently dried (below 40 °C, without heat - which would reduce colour and aroma) and then mechanically ground.

Use

Organic moringa powder can be worked into everyday life in many ways - cold or warm, savoury or sweet:

  • Green smoothies: 1 tsp in 300 ml of smoothie with banana, apple, spinach and ginger
  • Moringa water: ½ tsp in lukewarm water with lemon and honey - a gentle morning pick-me-up
  • Sauces & soups: stir in 1-2 tsp after cooking (do not heat above 60 °C)
  • Baking: 1 tbsp in smoothie bowls, energy balls, green pancakes or hummus
  • Salads & dressings: stir ½ tsp into an olive oil dressing - tastes mild and grassy

Dosage: To start, ½ to 1 teaspoon daily (approx. 2-5 g). Experienced users take up to 2 tsp per day, spread over several portions. Better to start with a measured amount and adjust to taste.

Tip from traditional cooking: Add moringa only towards the end of cooking or sprinkle it over finished dishes. In Sri Lanka, moringa is traditionally used as «Murunga Kola» in curries - the leaves, pods and roots are made into very different dishes.

Note: Pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as people taking medication (especially medication metabolised via the CYP3A4 enzyme), should discuss moringa with their doctor before consuming it regularly.

Quality
  • EU organic under DE-ÖKO-005 - annual audit under EU Organic Regulation (EU) 2018/848 from the field to the final packaging
  • gentle drying instead of heat - gentle, preserves the intense green colour and the mild aroma of the moringa leaves
  • Hand-harvested and packed single-variety in Sri Lanka - no mixing with produce of other origin
  • Directly from our smallholder families in Jaffna - no anonymous wholesale, no middlemen
  • Family business with Sri Lankan roots - personal checks on our partner families on site
